Acupuncture has been found in many research studies to be effective for treatment of migraines. With regular sessions, you may experience reduced symptoms now, with better wellbeing and fewer symptoms in the future.
We take a complete Chinese medicine diagnosis that takes in your whole health picture, not just your headaches.
Then we create a strategy to take you from where you are now, to a different state of being – including steady reduction in your migraine frequency and severity. This different state of being may also include reduced stress, better sleep, reduction in other areas of pain, and so on.
At first, you should expect to come for weekly acupuncture sessions for eight to twelve weeks. This lays a good foundation for change, allowing your body to learn new responses and create healthier pathways of function.
Some people respond very quickly and thoroughly. Others need more support to solidify those changes and lock in new ways of functioning.
A very common pattern is for people to have their initial weekly block of sessions, then come back later for shorter courses of treatment to get topped up.
Each person is different, so we don’t try to force you into a one-size-fits-all program. Your treatment is always tailored to what you need.
Most people find acupuncture to be a deeply relaxing experience. The most common experience is that people enjoy acupuncture and look forward to their sessions.
Acupuncture triggers pathways in the nervous system that tell the body there is no stress or danger – so that no “fight or flight” response is needed. This gives the body a signal to start doing deep repair work and release tension. This release of tension allows communication to flow as it should, enhancing overall health.
Acupuncture also releases endorphins – our own natural morphine. These are powerful feel-good chemicals that reduce pain and create feelings of wellbeing.
If you are sensitive, then we have a range of techniques to make you more comfortable. Your comfort is our top priority, and we will explain to you what to expect at each step during your session.
Depending on our assessment of your overall health picture, we might recommend other treatments such as Chinese Herbal Medicine – especially if there is a need for nourishment. This can make the healing process more efficient, as the body has more resources.
We can also recommend medicinal diets for you, as well as tailor some specific strategies to unpack any stressful triggers in your life.
Meditations and breath work are also very useful for some people, to continue regulating the nervous system between visits.
When you book in for treatment, we will tell you everything you need to know to prepare for your first session.
Chinese Medicine is a unique system aimed to create an increase in your overall wellbeing, not just stopping your symptoms.
Symptoms are the body’s way of asking for help. When we listen to the body, and provide what it’s asking for, then we are free to step into a new experience – an experience of wellbeing, release and ease.
This is our sincere wish for you, and our top priority.
